Valheim devs talk modding

Iron Gate, the makers of Valheim, recently made a post talking about mods and the modding community. The main point being to address the issue with the selling of mods. Something that Iron Gate – like most game developers – aren’t a fan of.

To quote their post on the matter:

“The thing that we’ve been getting the most questions about, however, is the phenomenon where mods cost money. We definitely understand that you spend a lot of your time on creating a mod, and that you might want financial compensation for that, but Iron Gate does not condone locking modded content behind a paywall.

We feel that charging money for a mod is against the creative and open spirit of modding itself, and therefore we urge all mod authors to make their mods freely available to all who want to play them. This should include the whole mod, and not just have part of the mod available for free while another part of it costs money. If you want to show your appreciation for a mod author you can of course still support them with a voluntary donation, but we do not want payment to be a requirement to access a mod.”

While they stop short of saying that they will take action against modders who sell mods, it is quite clear that it is a disliked practice.

The Old-fashioned Way

There are times when you just feel more at home in a piece from the olden days.

There’s also the benefit of after having spent time driving around in European trucks right beforehand, this oldie from the turn of the millenium sort of feels more at home with its “the nose ends just in front of the windscreen” construction. I must admit that.

Cabover trucks are as I understand it not all that common in North America anymore, at least not as heavy long hauler trucks. The Freightliner Argosy was produced and sold in the US and Canada between 1999 and 2006. After that its main markets was Australia, New Zealand and South Africa until it was disconinued in 2020.

The Freightliner Argosy in question is a mod available in the Steam Workshop and is made by Harven and Lucasi.

Wintertime

It is winter all around, so why not in Euro Truck Simulator 2 too? On my way with a delivery between the wintry Danish islands.

The winter feel is thanks to a package of mods called Frosty Winter which is made by Grimes and available on his web site. There’s also other seasonal mods there as well as some other. I haven’t yet used any of those though. But the winter one is truly great when you need a change from the ever-summer in the game.
