A roadtrip to the north

Since I’m finally up to date on the Promods mod version and in a try to forget about the autumn coming rapidly here, I decided to take a tour up north where there blissfully is eternal summer in Euro Truck Simulator 2. So a photo album from the high Nordics it is.

First task. Delivering a yacht from Narvik to Hammerfest. Don’t ask me why they couldn’t just, you know, sail it there.

And once that was done I couldn’t resist from taking a pure sightseeing tour up to Nordkapp. One fun thing is that I actually managed to arrive there right before midnight, so I got to see the midnight sun in all its game glory.

Morning again and time to return south. But in order to not make it a totally unprofitable journey we first should pick up some cargo. And then it’s time to start tunneling and winding back.

The goal, central Finland. So there’s a bit to go.

ETS 2 dawn

Even if I ought to be used to it by now I sometimes still can’t help but marvel over some of the visuals in this game. Sometimes what you need is just to tune in a nice radio station and drive all through the night.

Wielton Trailer Pack DLC for ETS2

The latest DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2 is out and this time it’s a new trailer brand.

Founded in 1996, Wielton S.A. has become one of the top manufacturers of semi-trailers and trailers in Europe and this DLC Pack provides the opportunity to haul a selection of their trailers.

The Wielton Trailer Pack DLC includes 6 trailer types, with a variety of trailer and chassis sizes, cabin accessories, and customization options.

  • Bulk Master – High Volume Dumper
  • Strong Master – Steel Dumper (3 axle and 4 axle)
  • Weight Master – Aluminium Dumper
  • Curtain Master – Curtain Sider (with optional dropside)
  • Dropside Master – Dropside
  • Dry Master – Dry Van (2 axle and 3 axle)

New MAN in Euro Truck Simulator 2

SCS Software this week added the new MAN TG3 TGX as a driveable truck in Euro Truck Simulator 2.

As usual it arrives with a select choice of configurations and customizations. This includes 3 cabin sizes (GN, GM, GX), 6 chassis types (4×2, 6×2, 6×4, and 8×4), 8 transmissions, and 9 engine options up to 640hp. There is also quite a number of customizations available for it, where maybe the most interesting is the option to use the MAN OptiView digital mirror system. This makes it only the second truck in the game after the latest DAF truck able to use digital camera mirros instead of classic outside mounted mirrors. In the MAN’s case it also comes with a blindspot detector accessory with new functionality as well as the option to display the front digital mirror on the infotainment screen.

ETS2 Update 1.47

The 1.47 update for Euro Truck Simulator 2 has been released and features some bug fixes, a redesign of the user interface which now shows more details about your company, some new gameplay additions – It is now possible to buy your own gas cistern and livestock trailers – as well as the continued rework of German cities. This time it’s Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Nurnberg and Erfurt which have been completely redesigned.

A more general implementation is the new Uneven Surface Simulation – small bumps are procedurally generated to give roads and other terrains an imperfect feel to them. While they may not be visible to the driver, you will be able to feel these subtle bumps and in some cases hear them affect your vehicle whilst driving.

Among other new things introduced with the update is the possibility for Adaptive Cruise Control and Emergency Braking System. Adaptive Cruise Control automatically adjusts the distance and speed from the vehicle in front when in cruise control mode. This is especially handy when encountering a busy highway, where you may find traffic often merging into a gap in front of you, or in situations where traffic speed is constantly changing. The Emergency Braking System for its part activates your brakes whenever a collision is imminent with the vehicle in front, to avoid or minimize damage. This technology in the real world has saved countless lives and is found in most modern trucks.

There has also been a rethink when it comes to how the necessary reset after a game update functions. Whenever the player’s economy is reset during a game load, it was the norm for you to be teleported to your HQ garage. From now on you will instead be offered a free quick travel to any service station of your choice after a game change was detected.

Happy Hauloween

Hauloween – SCS Software’s latest World of Trucks event – is in full swing and as usual those little trinkets one can get pulled me in. So let’s have some nice photos from the latest Corsica trip.

The benefit of a nighttime start is that you get to experience the first sunrays rise over the Mediterranian while transporting whatever is in the spooky trailer.

Yum. Borat’s pizza…
I must admit this is an interesting delivery place. Why a slipway? Am I hauling Halloween things that are supposed to be put to sea? Does the delivery papers say “Customer: Davy Jones” or something?

ATS and ETS2 1.45 updates are out

As is usual before the launch of a new DLC map (and sometimes in between such occurences too), American Truck Simulator has got an update to version 1.45. And to illustrate the “and sometimes in between” statement I just made, the similar 1.45 update for Euro Truck Simulator 2 is now also out.

For both games the news are ownable tank trailers, rain sensors that automatically may turn your windshield wipers on and adjust their speed as the sensors registers rain, some changes in how mods are handled in multiplayer convoy sessions, a setting that allow for hiding the out of bounds X’es on the roads

For American Truck Simulator the US-14 road and the accompanying town of Cody, Wyoming, have been added for those of you who own the Wyoming map DLC. There has also been a rebranding of many gas stations and truck stops all over the map – although probably most noticable in the “older” states – since SCS now have become much more skilled in how to make very neat such stuff.

For Euro Truck Simulator 2 there’s been an update of the German city of Hannover, which has also got a newfangled thing called custom introduction to the city. This has also been made for the Austrian cities. In addition the first phase of the implementation of functional JOST fifth wheels on trucks is included in this update.

You can read more about the 1.45 updates on SCS Software’s own blog. The one for American Truck Simulator is to be found here, and the Euro Truck Simulator 2 one is here.

The West Balkans are next in ETS2

After the sort of forced and unavoidable shelving of the Heart of Russia DLC, SCS Software has now made official what the next DLC instead will be. It is time for the West Balkans.

Of course since it’s still early in the development there is no date given for any release yet.

ETS2 DLC Heart of Russia shelved for now

SCS Software has now officially stated that the planned next DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2 titled Heart of Russia will not be released as originally planned. After some consideration they have taked the decision to put the remaining development and subsequent release of it on hold until further notice.

The reason for this decision is obvious. Now is not the moment to release this particular DLC, neither from a moral perspective nor from a business one. Russia’s attack on Ukraine and the horrible atrocities they have committed makes anything with Russia in its name quite frankly a liability, even if it is something as harmless as a map expansion for a computer game. In my personal opinion SCS has taken the right decision here.
