As the name implies, the Italia DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2 adds Italy as an area for driving, picking up and delivering goods.
Or more exact, it adds the lion’s share of Italy, since some parts of northernmost Italy has existed in the game since the release of the base game. But even these old areas of the game world has got updated in order to fit better with the more modern design of the new DLC. After all both SCS Software’s map making skills and ambitions as well as computer performance have marched on quite a bit over the years. The update of these parts of Italy has been made for everyone, so this DLC is not necessary in order to enjoy some new, more polished Italian cities.
With this DLC however, the player can now explore the whole Italian boot, including Sicily and Sardinia. This means ancient cities like Rome, Bologna, Florence, Naples and Palermo are now open for business. All in all the DLC adds 11500 km of driveable roads and 19 new cities to the game.
Graphically SCS continues the steady improvement of the map design, delivering a well-rendered version of the Italian landscapes and road network. There is a genuine sun-drenched Mediterranean feeling to the lighting and the autopistas also have that Italian feel, down to the pesky road toll booths. And if you get tired of the motorways there are ample possibilities to drive on smaller, winding roads over the Apennines or around Sardinia.
Even if the first taste of the Mediterranean landscapes was delivered already in the Vive la France ! map DLC, it is really nice to have a lot more chances to indulge in it with the access to Italy.
The Euro Truck Simulator 2: Italia DLC was released in December 2017.
